As we continued our Golden Circle route, we stopped at the Vik village. It's actually a major tourist town as many people come to town and make their way to the coast to see the black sanded beaches from here. As you can see on this map, Vik is one of the southernmost points of the island.
Vik's population--around 300. There is not much here according to our standards and I am sure everyone knows each other.
It was so quiet and peaceful on the streets when we stopped by here for lunch. The sun was shining and you almost forgot it was still quite cold.
We ate lunch at Halldorskaffi restaurant and had some really fresh hamburgers. I can't tell you in how many different countries Robert and the kids have played cards while waiting for food.
We were full and happy because it was still sunny. So we drove up to a great viewpoint by the cute church to look at the rock-stacks from this side.
While we are here, I wanted to show a picture of the gas station (the small building on the right). This is it. And it didn't take our kind of credit card without a chip and pin. So we had to pre-buy a card to use it to pay for gas, it was the strangest thing ever.
And here is another jumping picture.
After our Vik break we started our journey west back to our house. We drove for a few minutes towards Dyrholaey, a naturally carved out arch.
The whole area was fascinating--like right here. The waves were crashing inside this arch and sometimes splashing upwards towards those who were standing watching the water.
Some beautiful views.
And then we spent sometime on this small patch of the beach. Here is where the ocean really knew how to use its sneaky waves.
I don't know how many times this happened and almost got Alex wet.
It was funny because right after Alex posed in this place, pretty far away from the water, a couple of people walked over to our patch and got drenched standing in that exact spot.
Mark and Katya found a bunch of mini caves and holes to explore.
And here is another successful family picture on a timer.
We again were grateful for such wonderful weather with glistening water around us.
Lyana.
