Katya Turns 13!

One wish this girl had this year for her birthday was to NOT be traveling. We found it funny, but still planned our 4th of July trip accordingly:) We got back to England a few minutes before midnight and had to sing "Happy Birthday" song to Katya on the way home from the airport:).

The boys still had to go to school the following day (July 6th), so Katya did whatever she wanted that whole day. We opened her presents when Robert came home. So you get to see all the pictures in our empty house with temporary furniture.

Katya got an apron from Cath Kidston.

And a lunch box from Cath Kidston (she'd picked this one out herself;).

A huge package of Lifesavers that she'd wanted me to order from Amazon for months, but I just went to the commissary instead and got them there.

Not sure what Alex was trying to take away from Katya here. But this is typical.

Katya loves small earrings, so she got a bunch from her mama:)

One of her favorite gifts were that big glass jar (to store those Lifesavers?) and a 6 pack of cream soda. Our kids are weird.

Katya is a queen of puns, so I though that a new game called Punderdome would be very appropriate:)

Our friends joined us in the evening for some dessert. Katya doesn't like cake, so we made a fun rice crispie treat cake for her.

Katya is conducting her own group made up of Aiden and the Ross kids.

Can't believe we have a thirteen year old now...wow...

So happy to have you in our lives, Katya:)

Katya has really grown up in the last year. She is a beaming ray of sunshine to us, especially when she smiles (but not before 7:30 am;). She is still a night owl and loves it. She is the only kid who still comes downstairs "to get a drink of water" or whatever just so she doesn't have to go to bed. Katya is still learning to eat vegetables--they are truly a torture for her except raw carrots and cucumbers. At the same time she hates school lunches and packs good food from home. Her favorites are pasta with pesto, quesadillas or leftover chili. She does not like pb&j sandwiches...

Katya is very responsible and organized. She likes to plan ahead and think through things she has to get done in her after school hours. And she is a great student, with excellent grades and great behavior. This last school year she loved English and is trying to decide if maybe she wants to be an English teacher (or an interior designer). If she could do one thing, she would try out for all possible movie roles she could, but she also knows she needs to keep her education as her priority.

We admire Katya's determination to do things that are hard. They might not turn out perfect always, but she is happy that at least she didn't give up. She is a good example to others in friendliness and kindness (Alex is exempt from that though). We wish her a great new year in a new country and a new school!

We love you, Katrusia!!!

P.S. You might even get a real texting phone someday.
