Good bye Primary School.

It's a bitter sweet feeling to finish each school year. We look back at our ups and downs, new friends we had made and friends who'd moved away because we do live among military people after all. This year, in particular, the end of the school year is very sad and exciting at the same time. Alex finished his Year 6, which is 5th grade this July. That means next year he would be moving up to Hinchinbrooke School if he were a British kid, but instead he'll be starting Middle School. It's a big step. AND moving to another continent.

One of our dear people we had to say good bye to this year was Mrs. Eldred. It is tough to say good bye to someone you have known for four years, coming to your house every week and spending almost two hours there with the kids. We love Mrs. Eldred and already feel lost without her. Alex has so much respect for her that even when he was in the low in his motivation to play the piano, he still did it out of worry about what she would think. That's a big deal. We'll never find another Mrs. Eldred again, but so happy we did. She was truly a blessing in England.

We also had to say good bye to the Primary School. All Year 6's had a leavers assembly (that's what they call them) on July 19th. That's when the kids put on their one last show for the parents and their teachers. It was meant to be a very entertaining show with lots of jokes and set as a talent show. It was indeed very fun with many kids showing off their performing abilities. Alex was the final act in the performance. He played the piano and sang "Imagine" by John Lennon. It was very moving and touching. We were very proud of him for being brave enough to perform.

Kids also received their yearbooks. In the following few days the kids all signed each other's books AND each other's uniform polo shirts (Alex's favorite part).

And here is a picture of Alex and Mr. Steve Church. They had a great year! I couldn't have asked for a better (and cooler) teacher. Alex really liked him and respected him and would talk for hours with him when they would go on field trips on the bus. He wasn't a regular teacher--that was his new job of two years. Before then he was a scientist finding cures for cancer and working on cloning. He has traveled all over the world and was able to relate to Alex easily since he's also seen so much of the world. They even performed a duet of Mr. Church playing the ukulele and Alex singing a song about their school and class. Alex misses him a lot.

But life has to move on. These adjustments and uncomfortable situations only make us stronger and help us discover the best in ourselves.

Proud of our oldest boy to finish his Primary school years and do such a great job!:)
Moving on to the new adventures now!

Lyana.
