There was one place where Robert’s mom really wanted to visit—Liverpool. As an avid Beatles fan and a music teacher who actually teaches a Beatles class, this was the perfect place to take her. And so we waited for a weekend, so that Robert could join us, drove 2.5 hrs north to Liverpool and found ourselves enveloped in The Beatles Story.
What can I say? If you have ever heard of the Beatles (who hasn’t?), you will find this museum a very interesting place. And an audio guide is included with your admission ticket, it tells an incredible story (with life-size illustration) of the band that changed the world of music.
We followed their journey of their song recording.
We walked with them across the Abbey Road in London.
And got caught into the net of Beatlemania.
We celebrated the Beatles first No. 1 single and sang along many familiar tunes.
We flew across the pond with the boys.
Now THAT was some true British Invasion.
We even walked around the “Strawberry fields”.
The kids got a kick out of the history of the “Yellow Submarine”.
Their favorite spot though was this replica of the Cavern Club. The Beatles song was playing, the lights were dim, and the tables were set up as in a real club.
The best quote of the day came from Mark! He asked, “So why are those musical instruments so big if "beetles" are so small?". I love it!!!
At the very end of the exhibit we found ourselves in the room with this beautiful white grand piano and John Lennon’s song “Imagine” playing. It was very moving actually, considering all the chaos brewing in the world right now.
After an hour and a half at the museum, we got to walk around on Albert Dock—the main promenade of Liverpool. It was an exceptionally windy day!
This is right where Albert Dock becomes Pier Head.
After a DELICIOUS fish and chips at Dockland’s (definitely recommend this one!), I ran over to a small Tesco (convenience shop) and got us some bottled water (rather than paying $20 for us to have some water at the chippy). I also got our dessert-a package of ice cream that was much yummier and less expensive than buying ice cream on the street.
Liverpool—nothing extremely cool here besides it being the Beatles birth place.
We promised the boys they could walk through the water fountains on the way BACK to the car. Magically, they didn’t get too wet.
We left Liverpool at about 3 pm that day, but our adventures were not over! We were heading to Wales!
