Slava Ukraini!

Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!
I feel proud to be a Ukrainian. I love my country and I ache for my country. I hurt that people are dying and nothing is getting better.

We celebrated our independence on the 24th of August. I made vareniki that the kids loved, as usual. We made sure that they know what a special day August 24th is.

I promise Alex is a very aware of his Ukrainian roots, but at this moment he was busy entertaining our two friends who were staying with us for the weekend.
Katya, the one who loves to write her name Катя to make everyone question why she has a backwards “r” in her name.

One thing is sad and hard to admit—our kids don’t speak Ukrainian. They do read Ukrainian words, but can’t carry on a conversation. But we won’t go into that today… This is time to celebrate Ukraine and it’s people. Today we pray for peace.
Lyana.
