Watsons Go To Nova Scotia: Cheese, Hike And Lighthouse At Cape d'Or

On our second full day in Nova Scotia we did a bit of driving. We needed to get to Advocate Harbor on the other side of the peninsula.

It was a two hour drive, so we decided to stop by That Dutchman's Cheese Farm to see what it's all about. Katya hates cheese and the smell of the dairy farm was a bit overwhelming at times. She tried to stay in the car.

This is the gift shop that had so many different kinds of gouda, it was amazing!

We bought some cheese and crackers and had a bit of a snack/early lunch outside by the farm. The weather was idillic!

To break up our drive again we stopped by the Five Islands Provincial Park and went on a quick hike to see some wonderful views.

Look at this lush forestry!

The reward!

We had a good time on this hike. It was just enough to stretch our legs and continue our drive.

That night we were staying at Cape d'Or Lighthouse guesthouse. It was a one-night splurge just for the experience of sleeping right near the lighthouse:). The guests have to park up on the hill and then walk down to the lighthouse. Good thing we packed light;).

This is the lighthouse (that still functions) and the guest house plus a restaurant.

And this is the guest house, with several rooms and a common area at the entrance. The amenities were bare but every bedroom had a bathroom.

Before dinner, we took a nice walk right around the lighthouse area. The weather, the atmosphere, the mood were just glorious!

That evening we had reservations at the restaurant that was part of the property. The owner of the lighthouse guest house and the restaurant is a chef, so he makes delicious meals for his guests and those who just stop by for dinner but not staying the night. It is not an inexpensive thing, but so yummy and memorable (as you are surrounded by water as you are eating your meal). We had a great night!

After dinner, we took another walk enjoying the views.

One night was just enough at the lighthouse. We felt cut off from the rest of the world which was exactly the purpose of the stay--haha:) Carrying our luggage uphill the following morning felt a bit more challenging:)

To be continued...
