Since American and British schools are on different schedules, Katya has been staying home with me since June 12th, while the boys have to (unfortunately) keep chugging along to school all the way till 23rd of July!
On the last day of school, Katya woke up bright and early. She had to wear a white shirt and tie, as did everyone else at their school, as a way to say thank you and goodbye to their principal, who was retiring after this school year (Dr. Emerson is his name).
That morning, the kids didn’t do much besides just having their awards ceremony. So I went and watch Katya (and lots of other kids) receive many award certificate—for typing, for PE, for achievements at Terra Nova, for reading, for participating in choir and theater. It was a very happy occasion, and a bit of an emotional one for me, as this was the last day of Katya being an elementary school student…
Katya’s teacher, Mrs. Forbes, gave each kid a chocolate bar with some sort of description of them. She gave a quick speech about each one of her students, which was very sweet. Katya was picked as “Future Actress”. Hmmmm…I wonder why.
I thought it was quite fitting, since this little lady is quite a character whose strength and determination we are trying to channel into the right direction.
My beautiful little Katya, I hope you know how much we love you. You’ve had such an exciting year, full of hard work, achievements and fun. I hope you realize that great results don’t come easy and self-motivation is a great quality that many children now lack. Don’t be afraid to be different! Stand for what you believe is right! And work hard to achieve what you set your mind to!
Finally, look how much you’ve grown! This is you and I on your fourth birthday in Minnesota.
And this is you and I right before your eleventh birthday. Wow!
Guess what, though?! You will always be our little girl to us-hehehe. Tsiom. Mama.
…..And now back to enjoying our seven more weeks of summer.
Lyana.
