Owl Party-Katya Turns ELEVEN!

July through September is our busy time of birthday celebrations. It is definitely easier to organize birthday parties on the years when we are not in the middle of the move, thus we decided to do parties for all the kids even though they are turning semi-significantly 11, 9 and 6 this year.
I have decided that the prime years for birthday parties are 5-12 or so. Parties are easier to organize as I can actually involve the birthday child in making decisions, purchases, deciding on activities, games, etc. I also don’t have to be the entertainer all the time, as older kids can to simply enjoy their time socializing and playing.

Katya turned eleven this year. She is very crazy about OWLs right now. She claims she will never get tired of them and keeps trying to buy an owl in whatever country we travel. For her actual birthday, we were going to be in Normandy, so we decided to celebrate a few days early, on July 1st. She’d invited six friends (but one forgot to come to the party), which turned out to be just perfect.
Add some crafts to the owl theme, and you’ll get a great birthday party. The girls painted their ceramic owls (unfortunately, my new craft paint that I ordered from Joann’s Fabric did not arrive on time…it took my package about two months to get here).

Then we sewed stuffed owls (easy precut craft project), and good thing Robert came home from work to help me-haha.

They ate Katya’s favorite lunch-tortellini. And finally—the piñata.
Can you tell she loved her cute owl piñata?

My friend (my sweet connection) made a dozen of delicious cupcakes (since Katya doesn’t love cake, but LOVES these cupcakes), and we added loads of ice cream to the mix.

What a cute bunch!

I guess this is the age when jumping for a picture is still pure fun.  They loved this!

We were able to do this party during the day on a weekday because our base school is not in session but the boys were still at school in the village.  Katya was very satisfied—it turned out just how she dreamed it would be.

Each year I realize how fast Katya is growing up. I think of it often, but it hits me the hardest during her birthday month. It’s not a BAD thing, of course, it’s wonderful and exciting. She is maturing fast, getting a hang of how to be more responsible and trustworthy. She even started babysitting the boys now ( Robert and I have gone on a run and a quick date together already!).

And just so I don’t forget, a few fun facts:
Height: a whole 58 inches of awesomeness
Favorite Sport: rollerblading (is that a sport?)
Favorite Book: Nancy Drew series
Favorite Movie: The Book Thief
Favorite Color: still blue
Hobby: reading, singing, acting, sewing.
Future Profession: actress.

Oh, sweet Katya…we are so blessed to have you in our family. We love you very much. Happy eleventh birthday!!!!
Mama.
