Back in May, England finally started to warm up. We’d have a day or two of sunshine, getting into high 60s even, but then tumbling down to 50s and gloominess. Such as weather here—changing all the time. If it says we have a 70% chance of rain, you still go forward with your plans, because no one really knows what the weather will decide to do!
And that is what happened on this Saturday when we and our friends decided to drive two hours east to a cute village of Southwold. The forecast called for cloudy skies and light showers at our destination and we almost canceled our daytrip plans. But we didn’t, knowing English weather. All through out our drive it was POURING rain…My friend texted me as we were driving saying that she has faith that it will not rain, as she is “eating flip flops” (thank you, auto correct “WEARING” is the word).
When we drove into Southwold, the sun came out, rain stopped. Eating flip flops actually paid off.
First, we found a fish and chips place right at the pier. It was probably not the best chippy in town, but it was convenient and it could accommodate our whole group.
Fresh fish and chips.
Secondly, we grabbed our beach stuff and walked over to the sandy part.
And from about noon till five in the evening that is all that we did—play at the beach, chat and snack.
Although it was sunny, it was still a bit chilly and windy.
Katya opted for her Dutch look—wearing her Amsterdam hat.
But in her dream she was basking in the sun in the tropics.
Seriously, I have a picture of Alex doing this exact thing at every beach location we go to.
Katya and her favorite baby J.
It’s more fun to be buried in sand together. I think our friend T stayed in the sand for at least an hour.
This is just freaky.
And then we utilized our Princess ball.
Dads with kids enjoying the sun on the rocks (after pulling those kids OUT of the rocks).
A colorful row of beach huts adds character and coziness to this coastal village.
And the pier is beautiful too. I love this scenery!
It started raining once again as we were packing our cars to start our drive home. Thank you, sun, for shining the whole time we were at the beach!
We’ll definitely have to go back to Southwold this summer, hopefully, when it’s a bit hotter.
Good night.
Lyana.
