Academic Bowl

I am grateful that Cummings Elementary is a small enough school to give many kids an opportunity to participate in different extra curricular activities. First and second graders participated in the First Annual Academic Bowl this June. The kids were preparing for months prior--every Tuesday after school. They were learning different facts in the areas of math, English, geography, biology, etc.
Mark and I went to watch Katya compete. The kids were divided into three teams, with four kids in each team (two 1st graders and two 2nd graders in each one).  Those three teams were taking turns answering many questions of various difficulty levels. My favorite answer was to the question “What is the capital of Alaska?”. The team answered “Boston”.

After about 50 questions asked, the winner was announced—Katya’s team. Although winning was not the main goal of the competition for Katya, it sure was nice to get a trophy.

Congratulations, Katrusia!
