Alex's Creative Fundraising

Alex is a member of the band at his middle school. We have been very satisfied actually about the level of attention the art department receives at his school. Part of the ongoing effort to keep things lively is having the students help with fundraising for the band/chorus group. The fundraising  was made more fun by introducing incentives such as extra lottery tickets and a pizza party. As all parents know, throughout the school year kids come home requesting donations dozens of times. And we regularly donate but this time I decided that Alex was old enough to do something other than just donating his parents' money:) I gave an idea to Alex to set up a piano in our front yard and play some music and see what happens. Of course, he enthusiastically agreed!

I also sent out an announcement about it on our neighborhood Facebook page. Katya made some cookies, helped Alex set up the piano and the table with refreshments. People slowly trickled in enjoying the songs Alex was playing a variety of songs--from Billy Joel to Justin Bieber.

A few young boys who are Alex's friends decided to run around the neighborhood knocking on people's doors to collect their donations. It was amazing! Two hours later, when it got datker, we packed up and counted the money. Alex was so surprised! He raised almost $100!

He felt very proud of himself for making this fundraising effort his own and actually working for it. Of courses, I could have just written a charity check but this meant so much more to him.

Lyana.
