December through early March is basketball time at RAF Alconbury!
This year Mark was allowed to play on 7-9 year olds team as he turned seven right before the games started. He was the youngest kid on the team, but he was so excited to play with the bigger kids. It took a little bit of work to find a coach for his team though! Once all the teams got sorted Sed from the Youth Center told me that Mark's team actually doesn't have a volunteer coach. This is when I called the dental clinic and asked Robert to see if he could recruit someone:). And he did! His dental tech, Sal Stewart together with another tech Kulibert the Italian, agreed to coach! Robert was going to be their assistant coach, which is kind of hilarious:)
We were grateful for them stepping in and doing a great job with these boys.
These guys were so funny to watch as sometimes they all seemed to want the ball at the same time. They did know where their positions were but their problem was that sometimes they wouldn't move away from their positions:)
Mark got to shoot a couple of free throws and actually made the basket:)
Here is the dream team:)
And then there was Alex (in the yellow shirt) who was on the 10-12 year olds.
He had a great team as well, led by coach Brookes. They didn't win every time, but surely worked hard. Alex loved it and wants to continue playing next year...it's just a matter of what sort of level of ability he'll encounter in the states.
We are grateful for all the volunteer coaches that put in their time and effort into our young boys:)
Lyana.
