Today's post is going to be backwards in terms of how our day developed:).
One Saturday in May (although you can't tell that it's May as we are still wearing our early spring clothes and scarves on the picture below), we were lucky enough to catch some blast from the past. My friend, Katie, and her husband, Bret, were passing by London and we planned to meet them one evening. They had already spent a few days in London on the way to their grand adventure in Italy, so this was their last afternoon before leaving England. We arranged this meeting far in advance as I wanted to make sure to see them. Katie was my first Young Women's Leader my first year in the US. She was only twenty one or so back then, barely married, studying at BYU and living in a tiny cozy rental house that happened to be in the area where my host family lived. I have always looked up to her-she is beautiful, smart, kind and so fun among other things! When I was sixteen (and she would do my hairdos for formal dances:)), I wanted to be just like her.
Our lives took us in completely different directions, but somehow we've kept in touch all these years. Many children and a few moves later, we were able to see each other again. And she was still that same Katie that I remember:)) I'll think of her every time I watch BBC's Pride and Prejudice because her house was where I watched it for the first time on a girly sleep over. And I'll think of her when I see baby breath flowers because that's what she put in my hair when she did my hair for prom. Stuff like that, you know:)?
First of all, Robert did not shrink in height:)) For the first time in a long time he was dwarfed--by Bret who is 6'10'' (208 cm)! As you can see, our little group is missing Katya. She, unfortunately, had to stay behind at Alconbury as she had her second performance of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to complete. I was very sad she wouldn't get to meet Katie, but hopefully, someday she will. We had a great time with Katie and Brett. We met at St. Paul's Cathedral (caught a bit of evensong) and had dinner at the Gourmet Burger Kitchen next door. It was a wonderful evening and I am glad we didn't let this opportunity to see each other slide.
So because we were going to meet with Katie and Bret in the evening, we thought that we might as well use our train ticket well and spend more time in London. I was reading online about various plays presented in London at the moment and decided that The Railway Children would probably suit us best. I bought five tickets (not realizing that Katya wouldn't be able to go) thus Carson got to hang out with us for the day and see the play.
Before the play we walked around the Regents Canal area a bit since it's close to King's Cross station and the play venue. We discovered this fun splash pad! We'll have to come back here when it's hotter..I mean...warmer.
Oh, here is a low quality picture from before the play. This particular theater was built specifically to accommodate this play "The Railway Children". The play was set up very uniquely--a railway track was in the middle, with seating on either side of the track. Besides, platforms in the middle could move to change the scene settings. They even had a real steam train pull into the station! In all, it was a great production and a very thought provoking and educational plot. Fantastic acting too! They boys liked it:) What a great day indeed!
I won't describe what we did in the morning as it was probably the routine life stuff like house chores:).
Cheers,
Lyana.
