We are very fortunate to have great friends, and we know it:). We also very fortunate that our friends live in awesome places so that we can come visit them-hehe.
Spain has been on our list to visit for years (we don't count Barcelona as real Spain), but we were waiting for the perfect time so we could catch nice warm weather and see our great friends, the Rhineharts, whom we met at the Misawa Friends Factory. Coordinating school and travel schedules was pretty easy, although our kids had to miss school again.
The Rhinehart family lives near Rota Navy Base, so we flew into Seville (about 1.5 hour drive from there). As we stepped on the tarmac at the airport, we thought we were thrown into an oven. I am not exaggerating...it's been years since I felt such hot air surround me:). Waiting in the passport control line inside the building was not cool either although we were wearing light clothes. We knew that Spain was surviving this heat wave just fine though and got excited about feeling hot for once.
We met Renee and little Owen at the airpot with a super cute sign:
Very creative, Renee;)
And we were off to Jerez for a late night Feria. When we arrived to Jerez, it was already after 7 pm, but we felt like it was still early afternoon! It was incredible! The sun was up in the sky, the air was hot, no slowing down of life on the streets, in fact, the party was just starting. Renee brought a few Spanish outfits for kids so they could all blend in a little better with the Feria crowd.
Feria is a huge celebration that is organized every year by each municipality and is a big deal. Basically, it's a Spanish-style fair with lots of restaurants, food stalls, rides, dancing and horses (as well as dancing horses, no joke) set up in one large area.
Hot Spanish sun wasn't letting us take pictures with open eyes. It was 38 C (100 F) outside.
Our bodies used to English weather were definitely feeling it.
We wondered around for a bit looking for a bite to eat, but most of all, to find some nice cold water.
We didn't even make it to the rides part (and we were all right with it) as it was already 9 pm. Unbelievable.
Renee has definitely embraced the fun loving Spanish culture-haha.
We decided not to wait till the darker hours, but I am sure these lights would look amazing.
We bid farewell to the Feria, found some delicious handmade doughnut balls for the ride home and headed to the Rhineharts who graciously hosted us for six days.
The adventures will continue...promise.
