I have to say that Spain has lived up to our expectations in terms of nice hot weather and sunny skies. Seriously, we couldn't even comprehend the fact that from May till September you rarely see any clouds in the sky around here. We got used to clouds and rain as part of life in England but it was definitely a shocker after our hot trip to go back to Cambridgeshire that was wallowing in the low 60s. Well...we are not at the end of our trip yet, so let's enjoy these sunny shots.
Having a pool is not a luxury, it's a must:). Our friends hold weekly pool get togethers during summertime to ease the heat and spend time with friends. What a life-haha!
Katya's anti climatic throw:)
Looks like Robert just served Mark as he would a volleyball.
This day, Saturday, was our planned relaxed day. We all woke up late, had world famous Geoff's omelets late, played in the pool a bit and then packed up all the fun equipment and headed for the beach.
It was one of the first hot weekends of the year, so the regular beach spots were full. We had to settle for a less picturesque but very paddle-friendly beach. Kayaks were an immediate hit with the older kids.
Geoff gave Mark a ride on his board.
An hour later, everyone was having a turn paddling all the way to the other side of the "bay".
Man..six years old and he is kayaking in Spain. Surreal.
It was finally my turn to try one of the kayaks/boards. I am not as cool as Renee-haha-I was not brave enough to just stand on my board.
After a few hours on the beach, it was time to pack up, although the sun was still high up in the sky. The tide was VERY quickly going away revealing an incredible amount of rocks and rock pools.
That evening we had dinner at one of the Italian places on the beach. It was great!
We had to walk a bit after dinner to get to our parked cars and when we just starting driving away, Katya noticed she'd lost one of her earrings! A small sterling silver stud with cubic zirconia It was already dusky and we were on the way to go get ice cream in town. I had a very strong impression that we should nevertheless turn around and go try looking for that earring...although we didn't know exactly at which point she lost it. Katya said she remembers having it as she was walking back from the restaurant to the car carrying Owen, and somewhere between the restaurant and the parking lot she'd lost it. Our group was traveling in two cars (Renee, Katya, Owen and I in one of them), so we pulled over at one of the safe spots and told the boys that we were going back to the beach. It was an absolutely crazy idea! I just didn't want to give up! We got to the beach, walked back slowly to the spot where Katya remember still having the earring, walked back to the car, our eyes on the ground. Renee used a flashlight on her phone to help us a bit, so she walked away with Katya to a different area than me.
And then....after not even five minutes of looking...I saw a tiny glittering something on the ground...I looked closer and saw that it was her earring!!! I couldn't believe it! Seriously! I ran to Renee and Katya and almost screamed for joy:). It was very hard to believe that we found it in such dark conditions and on a sandy path. When we got to the ice cream shop and told the boys, they were simply shocked! It was indeed a miracle:)
Delicious fresh ice cream and a miracle was a great end to our relaxing and memorable day.
To be continued...
Lyana.
