A Miracle Visit to Montana

Sometimes I am amazed at the incredible circumstances that bring to pass miraculous events. One of those was Robert's and Katya's visit to see Robert's mom in Libby, Montana. The way this whole thing came about started with an extremely strong feeling that Robert needs to go out to Montana and see his mom who was going through chemo to treat her cancer. It hit me like a ton of brick and I couldn't let go of the thought. Although in my head I was questioning how in the world we could pay for the ticket that is never cheap (Raleigh to anywhere in Montana is not a very popular route), I suddenly came up with a way we could make it happen--by using the extra money we had put away for emergency. I knew it needed to happen. I shared my feelings with Robert and he, of course, agreed that we should definitely try to figure something out.

The following day we finalized the date he needed to go and cleared it with work. And then out of the blue, I had a feeling we should check our Delta miles balance to see if there is anything there that we could use towards the ticket. And what a miracle!!! We actually had enough to cover the WHOLE ticket from Raleigh to Kalispell and only had to pay ELEVEN DOLLARS! Yes! Eleven! We couldn't believe our luck and kept thinking there was some sort of a catch. But there was none--it was real! Robert was going to Montana to see his mom for almost nothing.

The day after that I shared this great news with my mom and told her how Katya was begging us to let her join Robert and go see her Grandma. My mom right away said that we absolutely had let her go because that's what she would have loved to happen if she were Robert's mom. She said she would pay for Katya's ticket if we couldn't do it even. That night we started scrambling through all of our Delta miles accounts and by combining and buying some more miles we were able to buy Katya's ticket for  a little over $150! It was very exciting and a bit unbelievable. The end of the Miracle Story:)

Katya and Robert had a great time with Grandma, although they only had two full days to spend with her. Katya's cousins, aunt Jenny's kids, were at Grandma's as well, so they all got to hang out together for a while. Grandma took Katya and Robert to the school, where she teaches music, to grab a few instruments. Katya picked the ukulele and somehow easily learned to play it!

Grandma always likes laid back time with her grandkids.

In the morning, Robert drove through some parts of Libby. Katya said it reminded her of Siler City here in NC:)

A small town USA.

And then Katya concluded that where we live is where she'd rather be... Not that the town is bad, but it's just so not what we are used to. I bet our lives would be so much simpler if we lived there though...

...and Katya would be driving a truck someday...:))

I am not sure why, but this was one of the pictures that Robert texted me when he was in Montana--Katya and Robert throwing away trash at the dump.

I am sure there were many conversation and beautiful moments had together. Robert's mom really enjoyed that Robert and Katya came to visit and was very grateful that we pulled it off. We so hope that soon we all will be able to go visit Montana again so that Robert could show the kids more stuff from his childhood. But until then--we are still here in North Carolina:)
