Stratford-Upon-Avon

One Saturday, when Mika was visiting, we decided to drive to Warwickshire (I dare you to pronounce that name correctly). Only an hour and a half--boom--we are in Shakespeare country. Stratford-upon-Avon is where we stopped just for an hour or so. This ancient market town was first chartered in the late 12th century. It's situated on the beautiful river Avon, with population of around 25, 000.

Maybe I should have cropped these pictures.

No one would really know about Stratford-upon-Avon though if it weren't for William Shakespeare, who was born here. Thanks to him, almost 5 MILLION visitors come to this town every year.

We were among those visitors. And we did all the touristy stuff but in an abbreviated version because we really don't like doing the touristy bits in these beautiful towns.

It was very crowded and busy. Loads of people on high street spending the day sightseeing and shopping. We didn't have the whole day to spend at Stratford-Upon-Avon so we bought some ice cream and some delicious cake from a cafe, wandered around the street to get a feel of the town...

...and then took pictures next to the Birthplace of Shakespeare.

We feel like we missed the better, cozier part of this town, so we might have to go back when it's off-season. Katya had been here before with her school on a field trip (how cool is that?). So now we all can say that we have seen the place where William Shakespeare was born.

Cheers,

Lyana.
