New Zealand: Trip of a Lifetime-Ziplining in Rotorua

Today's post is going to feature A LOT of green photos because we decided to step up our level of excitement and go ziplining in the midst of the beautiful forest in Rotorua!

We chose to go with Rotorua Canopy tours as their reviews were stellar and we were not disappointed! That is my nervous face, by the way....everyone else is smiling.

Our tour was at 10:15, so we drove a few minutes to their office where we got fitted with all the necessary gear.

Then we were driven probably around 20 minutes to the place where we were going to zipline.

Who is SO excited to go ziplining?? Not meeee! Still so scared of heights!

We had to walk a bunch through the luscious greenery as the knowledgeable guides were telling us about the conservation efforts and trying to preserve the ecosystem of the forest. When the company decided to do ziplining in this area, the forest was quiet with very few birds...they said the forest was very sick. And the reason was---pests! The rats were everywhere. So they had to figure out how to trap a lot of rats and possums to help this forest rejuvenate. Twelve years later, they were so proud of what they had accomplished! The forest is full of life!

This was too tame for Robert.

At one point during our walk, the guides stopped us and asked for volunteers to do something crazy. Of course, Alex volunteered...this kid... And it was him sticking out his tongue, while the guide put a dry worm on his tongue and a bird darted out of nowhere and got the worm off his tongue!!! It was so funny and crazy! And then Mark did the same thing!! It was exciting to see!

The cool thing was that we didn't need to use our gloved hand to stop ourselves before each platform! They did it for us!

Katya--always up for an adventure!

Alex--makes it look easy! Like nothing was too impressive for him!

Mark-I love all sorts of fun things like that and want to do them at a riskiest level possible!

Robert--he claims he was blowing a kiss to me, I'll take that.

And Lyana--hopes she will survive this.

We had a fantastic time going from platform to platform, with some long and some shorter rides, all in the beautiful setting.

It was definitely different from Costa Rica. The one long ride in Costa Rica was wayyyy higher up and longer.

At one point we had to pick a bird and make sounds like that bird while on the zipline. It was so funny!

Everyone had a great time and it was not too difficult at all!

Our group was not too large so we all were able to have a very exhilarating time with no rush.

 To Be Continued...
