After two full days at La Fortuna we headed south towards Dominical where we were staying for five more nights. Man, oh man....were we WRONG to drive south on Thursday before Easter. NEVER AGAIN! The whole country of Costa Rica was probably driving somewhere that day as it was the first day off for Easter holidays.
Our 5 hour drive turned into an 8 hour drive. Yep....that’s how we all felt.
At some point Alex was fed up with the traffic jam and decided to just get out of the car to walk around.
We stopped for lunch (pastries) at San Ramon, stretched our legs and enthusiastically continued our drive.
We stopped again at San Mateo, just because our Wayz app rerouted to some obscure places trying to avoid the busiest roads.
AND FINALLY!!! Dominical. We actually arrived when it was almost dark. And were grateful our car had a 4 wheel drive as the driveway to our airbnb was insanely steep on a gravel road. It’s typical to the area though, as the whole neighborhood was pretty much like that.
Our place was very nice, big, with two bedrooms, bathrooms, two levels, awesome kitchen and FANTASTIC patio area and views. Amazing! But I did have to communicate with the owner to have people come in and clean the place a bit better as it was definitely not up to our standards. They were very apologetic and resolved the problem as soon as possible. I will leave this here for future reference: Luxury Villa with stunning ocean and jungle views
I don’t have a picture of the house here but instead here is a picture of a sign at a restaurant that Katya took.
Oh yes, and for dinner, we went to Del Mar Taco Shop which was so yummy! And! The worst part is that we went back twice to this place wanting to buy food and it was closed for the rest of our stay in the area... sadly.
The next day we spent the whole day on the beach. With breaks.
The kids are not little anymore so they actually don’t want to spend the whole time in the water.
These trees are amazing! I think that is the biggest difference between beaches on the East Coast or Florida and here--these trees! We have sand dunes over here and no trees at all, but here--beautiful in a different way.
This is Mark realizing that once the tide goes out he can see the rocks that are crazy and dangerously hiding underwater.
To be honest, I didn’t expect such a rocky beach. It was beautiful but definitely not a smooth sandy beach.
Took a few beautiful pictures!
Trying to replicate the picture from Hilton Head in 2017.
And this is why we call it the Coconut beach. They actually had a tree with a bunch of coconuts that we could pick. As if we knew what to do with them! And we had to figure out how to get that shell off-hahaha.
And a ton more pictures of us by the ocean!
This is to show you how beautiful the setting is where you can use the trees as your shade.
All those rocks are hidden when the tide is high.
Half of the time Alex was a quiet grouch-haha. Beach was just not his favorite thing to do.
But he did provide us with this fantastic picture!
Towards the evening we drove to a beach were apparently all the locals decided to go that day too. Parking was crazy as people were grilling, picnicking, hanging out as huge families at this beach. But this is where you could see two caves fill up slowly with water during high tide and where normally you can walk through the caves, like windows.
Robert in front of one of the caves which was actually a lot more impressive in person. The water coming in was very forceful and loud and splashed all over the cave and out of the cave.
And then we drove to the opposite side of our coconut beach to look at the beautiful views. You could see our house from there.
Our house is one of the top buildings right there.
That’s all for now. Do I dare say PURA VIDA?
To Be Continued...
