Of course, it has been a crazy year. And of course, we didn’t technically need to make a big deal out of our Ukrainian Christmas. But we wanted to continue the tradition because unexplainably the kids love it (although they like maybe just 1/3 of all the food that I make). Although it was a middle of the week kind of dinner, we decided to make it more casual, simple, but still delicious!
We had vareniki and Napoleon, and mini-oliv’ye and a few other simple dishes, so everyone was happy. Robert told me that I could just bake the Napoleon and that would make him completely happy.
This was Katya’s last Ukrainian Christmas at home...whaaat? Usually college classes would already have started by Jan 6th and she wouldn’t be here for our celebration. We’ll have to make a choice! And maybe we could just do a Ukrainian dinner on Christmas Eve? Don’t know...it might not feel the same. It’s always so nice to have Christmas over, a bit of relaxation and then cook a grandiose dinner of twelve Ukrainian dishes. At the same time, a lot of the Ukrainian population is now shifting to celebrating Christmas on Dec 25th together with the Western World. They even get a day off in some places. So we’ll figure it out.
For now, Z Rizdvom!
