We closed on our house at the end of February but didn't move to the new house till March 11th. We had our main level hardwood floors resurfaced while we were still out of the house. Then I cleaned the whole house so it was nice and shiny before we moved in and started moving our stuff from our old house to the new one. I made many trips over the next few days in my loaded minivan. And it wasn't so bad. On Friday before the big move, I had professional movers move the heaviest pieces of our furniture. By Saturday, we had the rest of our furniture left as well as boxes. I moved most random items unpacked which made it quite easy at the end.
The funny part (it was REALLY funny when it actually happened) was when Robert and I drove to Penske truck office to pick up our moving van for Saturday. We show up and we see this tiny-tiny truck parked, all ready for us to pick up. We looked and looked at it and just started laughing that it was kind of silly that Robert thought we could fit all our remaining stuff in it-hahahaha. Lucky for us, there was a guy who was coming back soon with a bigger truck, so Robert stayed at that office for almost two hours to make sure he gets it before the following morning. It all worked out!
On Saturday morning, we had so many people from the ward show up to help us! It was a blessing! These people knew we were moving out of the ward and had absolutely no obligation to be there on a weekend morning, but they came. We couldn't have done it without all the help, that's for sure.
Fitting it all in even in this BIG truck was still an adventure, but Robert and some friends somehow managed.
I will not mention whose idea it was to wrap Alex up in this shrink wrapping paper left by the professional movers at our house by accident. Let's just say he wasn't too upset about being a part of the experiment.
It took us about two and a half hours to finish loading and reaching the new house. At 11 am we had people coming from the receiving ward. Again, we couldn't have done it without them. They didn't even know us and no one forced them to be there, but they came and they helped. We are so grateful for that!
Here is Robert, Katya and Geoffrey unloading our bikes which were pretty a tangled mess.
And here is Katya with the LAST box! All finished!!

The rest of the day was a blur:) I had to go back to the old house to bring a few of the leftover items and then came back around 4 pm to find the whole Dean family happily helping us set up furniture, unload our kitchen boxes and get everything ready for our first night at the house. The older kids did an amazing job finding all the sheets, towels and blankets, making beds and changing air filters to make it easier for us in the evening. It was just amazing! The least stress I had ever had after moving in. Robert and Jared went to Home Depot to get a few necessary things (such as a plastic pan to put under our washer) and some Chinese take away. The kids were having a great time and we had fantastic company. It definitely turned out to be a memorable day:)
Hopefully, we will stay put here for a while now...
Lyana.
