This year Halloween seemed to drag on and on for over a week. The good thing is that the kids got to a chance to wear their costume more than once. And the most unfortunate thing for me, personally, is that for over a week they were bringing candy and chocolate into the house...we all know that doesn’t fly well with me:(
At first, we had a mini-Halloween piano recital organized by our fabulous Ms. Bridget. She even let Alex join the fun, although he is taking piano lessons from a Japanese teacher on base. Katya was a “crazy professor” and apparently she played her role very well. Everyone had fun!
Then on Wednesday, before Halloween, our church, as always, held a Trunk-Or-Treat. That’s when all families park their cars in the church parking lot, decorate their trunks and give out candy to kids who walk around in their costume.
Katya found a new way to express herself this time. She was “Evil Dr. Watson” with a “drillinator” (guess what it’s made of) and a “tooth yankinator”.
Although Alex has never seen “Pirates of the Caribbean”, he somehow knew about Jack Sparrow. Therefore, he was ecstatic when I told him I found this costume. Our toothless pirate.
And of course, don’t forget the cutest “Mavpa” on the block—Monkey Mark. He loved this costume. For days prior to this he begged me to wear it every day. Isn’t it great to be able to choose what your kids are for Halloween when they are younger?
It’s always sooo freezing, so this year it was nice to have hot chocolate and yummy muffins after the festivities. Oh yeah, Robert’s wig to be “Justin Bieber” might arrive by Christmas. This was his costume called “I just found random things in my closet”.
Then on Thursday we had our Halloween party at the hospital. It was not as crazy as usual, since they actually had a “guide” who took us through all unknown places at the clinic to trick or treat.
And of course, more candy.
Katya with her friend, obviously, having too much fun.
Finally, on actual Halloween night, our friends who live off base came over for some pizza and candy. We all went trick-or-treating around the North Area neighborhood. It was perfect-two streets in a little over an hour.
Robert and I took turns giving out candy. Our big bowl was almost empty by the end of the night—success!
Oh yes, and of course, Candy Buy Back. Great idea, if you ask me! Both Katya and Alex counted their candy, decided how many they wanted to keep and how many they wanted to sell to me for 10 cents a piece. Alex made over $18! Katya somehow ended up with half as many candies as Alex, so her earnings were $9—still not too bad.
Now, if only I could hurry up and mail those leftover sweets to our friend in Afghanistan before I “sample” them all!
Good night.
