You can say that the Watsons are a very adventurous family. You can also say we are brave. And some may say we are crazy.
This time, our fun stress loving family decided to fly to Seoul for a one week vacation. To be honest, I’d never considered Seoul a big destination spot for a family vacation (especially my family), but then again, if you factor in a FREE flight, luxury lodging for less than $100 per night and (relatively) inexpensive dining . . . honey, pack your bags, we’re heading to Korea.
The Space-A flight directly from Misawa to Osan was fairly simple and uneventful. A bit of waiting beforehand, then a 2 hour flight (with plenty of legroom) and some more waiting when we arrived (because our bags somehow were the absolute last ones to get unloaded off the plane).
After finally getting our bags, we were lucky to catch a bus to Yongsan (an Army base in the middle of Seoul where the hotel is) right next to the terminal. Normally, we’d have to walk a bit to catch the bus at a bus stop down the street, but since there were so many people PCSing, there were four buses sitting and waiting right next to the terminal. We asked if we could catch a ride, and they said hop on, which we gladly did, because it was FREE and nonstop too.
Thankfully the kids were still in pretty good spirits during the hour bus trip.
Finally, we arrived in Seoul! We quickly settled into our room just in time to head out again for dinner. And of course where does an American family eat their first night in Korea? Outback Steakhouse!! Burgers, spicy beef quesadillas, onion rings, mushroom chicken alfredo – yummy.
Don’t worry, I didn’t eat that whole platter of pasta on my own.
It was a very rainy evening. We walked along this famous international street full of tiny shops (Itaweon).
In this area, you could buy lots of shoes (non-brand kind), purses, sports jerseys, robes, etc, etc. I cannot say that prices were soooooo fantastic. We didn’t buy anything there.
