Sunflowers of North Carolina

One Sunday afternoon, instead of our traditional Sunday walk, I told everyone that we were going to Raleigh, to see the sunflower field as sunflowers were in full bloom!

Everyone was ecstatic! Jumping for joy basically!

At least Robert was showing me his enthusiastic support.

Well, to be honest, we just came for this one picture. I wanted us all to be together, with the sunflowers.

I know what one might think...where in the world did she find a random flower head wreath?...well, I grabbed it on the way out of the house as I knew that it would remind me of Ukraine with all the sunflowers and blue skies.

And yes, I picked the color for my shirt to resemble the Ukrainian flag colors--blue and yellow.

Clearly, I was enjoying our photo session.

My sun kissed girl was loving it too.

Who is this sunflower farmer struggling with the heat?

What you don't see is dozens and dozens of other North Carolinians exploring the rows of these sunflowers. We definitely showed up at a very busy time.

Oh look, she is back!

Next time, I'll just bring her her on her own and we can have some fun!

Katya is like a little sunflower herself.

Alex definitely wore a nice color for the sunflower pictures too.

And this is how our gang looked in the midst of the sunflowers.

And here is my favorite guy in the whole sunflower world.

And Mark survived... Secretly perhaps actually liking the sunflowers, but having to put up "this is so painful" front.

I know that not everyone in the family is keen on these outings, but that's just what it is--a family outing, an attempt to keep up with traditions that we can remember and laugh about later... "Do you remember how mama was adamant about us going on Sunday walks?"... that's what I really hope to hear someday at a big family gathering.
