Halloween this year was pretty low key at our house. It was originally supposed to be a day off at school so we could party all day, but because of the hurricanes we had to make up a school day. I managed to find some huge pumpkins at Aldi for $3 each, as no one wanted to go to a pumpkin patch or anything. Here we have to carve them at the last possible day if we want to display them outside because they simply go moldy in this warm fall weather. Thus pumpkin carving was our Family Home Evening this year.
On the evening before Halloween, we had Trunk or Treat at the church. Mark was going to go as a UNICORN (he was planning to tape one piece of corn on his plain shirt..;) but then changed his mind and went as Ambulance OR English Soccer Player OR Knight to the party.
Katya was a bit too lazy this year so she just threw her costume together last minute and went dressed as a soccer mom.
Alex prides himself in being able to wear almost all of Robert's clothes now, so he decided he could just reuse his popular costume too.
Robert and I, as usual, used wigs;)
On actual Halloween night we had our friends over for a super quick chili dinner. At 6 pm is when most of the kids in the neighborhood start knocking on our door. I run out of candy every year as we get a ton of trick or treaters walking through our small neighborhood.
Katya changed it up a bit and dressed up as Christmas.
Here are the kids with some of their friends--a lot more showed up moments later (their houses are not part of any neighborhood). Mark had already left to go trick or treating with his buddies.
Finally, at almost 8 pm, they are examining the loot. SO MUCH CANDY!!! And Mark didn't even get half of what Alex got (a pillowcase full...)
We got our fire pit out, a few of our dentists-friends came over to hang out and it was just perfect! Providing job security at its finest.
The older kids are getting a little hesitant to go trick or treating now that they are teenagers but most people don't seem to mind as long as they and their group of friends are polite and dressed up:). I'd rather see teenagers trick or treating, trying to hang on to their childhood, than hanging out somewhere on the streets doing who knows what. Yeah.
Till next time!
Lyana.
