Katya Turns FOURTEEN!

On July 6th we celebrate our beautiful Katya's birthday.  She is the one that fourteen years ago made us a mother and a father. It's unbelievable that now she is a self sufficient young woman, feeling like she is ready to conquer the world of high school. Turning fourteen is so exciting and so scary at the same time. In our church, turning fourteen means being able to go to church dances (something Katya has been looking forward to) and moving up to Mia Miads class in the Young Women's organization (14-15 year olds).

This year Katya kept her birthday celebration low key. Robert and Alex were away at Boy Scout camp the whole week of July 4th, so it was just Mark and I to entertain Katya. We tried to copy our friend Bridget and "taped" Katya's door so she woke up and had to "get out" of her room. Mark thought it was the coolest thing ever that I woke him up at 11 pm on the night before to help me decorate. But he went back to sleep after the first three minutes.

We also had Katya's good friend, Geoffrey join us for dinner. Katya chose Carrabba's as the place for dinner as she loves pasta.

Since Katya doesn't love regular cake, I made an ice cream cake for her--delicious brownies with frozen Oreo cookies ice cream on top. I KNOW! It looks like it's straight out of Pinterest! I agree!

On Saturday after her birthday, she had a little get together with some girls from church  She invited six or seven girls but many couldn't come or had to leave after a short time.

Katya also made sure to spend a whole day with Sophie on one of the days of her birthday week.

We love so many things about Katya! She's had a sparkle in her eye since day one:) People always commented on how happy of a baby and later a little girl she was.

She is growing up to be a beautiful young woman, confident and smart. Don't get me wrong, she is very stubborn and, as any teenager, sometimes forgets she lives on the same planet as other members of her family. She is a good friend and a very good leader. I love that she is kind to both boys and girls who need it most, although sometimes it's hard. Katya's passion is singing and performing on stage (and eating pasta).

Just to have a solid record of her changing personality here:

Height: 5'7''(well, maybe 5' 6.5'')
Favorite Sport: Rowing
Favorite Book: Book Thief
Favorite Movie right now: Thor Ragnorak
Favorite Color: Pastel shades
Hobby: Theatre

Happy 14th Birthday, beautiful Katrusia!! We love you!:)
