Year 6 and Year 2

School started on September 3rd for our boys! Kind of strange to start school on a Thursday... especially a Thursday before Labor Day weekend... but they don't know that it's Labor Day weekend here, so whatever:).

To say that Alex and Mark were excited to start school is an understatement. They were ecstatic! So grateful that both of them love school.

Alex is in Year 6 this year (5th grade in the US). He got the teacher he wanted--Mr. Church, his first male teacher. This summer, a new part of the school was completed, so all children in Years 3-6 got to move to new classrooms in that two-story building, which is a big deal in such an old country as England:)).

Alex was really hoping he could be a House Captain this school year, as only Year 6 students could apply to be one. As I am writing this post, three weeks later actually, I can announce that Alex did get voted to be the House Captain of Mayflower. He had to fill out an application and give a speech in front of everyone before the voting. Last phrase in his speech was something like, "With me as your captain, Mayflower will be unstoppable!". He is so fun:)

Alex is also still participating in choir at 8:30 before school on Thursdays, orchestra at 8:15 before school on Fridays and rugby after school on Wednesdays and has trumpet lessons during school hours on Mondays.

Mark is in Year 2 now! It's still called Key Stage 1, so he is sad he doesn't get to play on the BIG kid playground yet, but still being in Year 2 is a big deal. His teacher is wonderful-Mrs. Taylor. Mark is trying to behave his best in her class, picking up green cards left and right (that's the rewards). He also joined a singing club that meets on Thursdays after school. He gets to eat "hot dinners" (school lunches) three times a week because they are free and yummy. They are actual prepared meals, so I am thinking maybe I should just let him buy them more often..except not on Fridays as it's the "fish fingers" day. It's just so funny to hear him tell me that he ate shepherd's pie or curry for lunch, but he likes it. And apparently they have the best "pudding" (dessert) ever!

Still waiting for more teeth.

Hope this year will be as exciting as the last one! Our last school year in England:(

Good luck!
