Our Beautiful Young Woman-Katya Turns 12!

Having a summer birthday can have its own huge advantages, especially if you live in a place where your weather changes with seasons. Being able to party outside has always been the tradition with Katya's birthday. This time, since we were on the road on her actual birthday, we decided to celebrate with Katya outside on our street.

Katya does not like cake very much, so she asked for an ice cream cake. Robert did a great job by using his talent of shopping at Tesco for blocks of ice cream and layering it on top of brownies--easiest cake EVER! Katya loved it!

We got to sing Happy Birthday to her with our friends the W. family who were the ONLY people left on our street of ten houses since everyone had moved out. We were happy to have them!

So now Katya is TWELVE! Wow! So grown up but yet such a kid! She is very excited to start 7th grade this September and is hoping to get Chinese in her schedule. Now, Katya can officially babysit other children, not just her siblings, so I know she is hoping to get her name out there as a potential responsible babysitter:).

Being twelve is significant in our church as she gets to leave Primary (lessons for children ages 3-11) and join the Young Women (ages 12-18). Now she is learning all the same stuff, she says, but in more detail:) but she gets to socialize with a lot of wonderful girls of her age on Sunday and on Tuesday evenings to have fun and strengthen her faith.

She is still quite a tomboy in some things, but quite girly in others:). She does not like pink and she does not want to wear make up (I am TOTALLY okay with that). She also doesn't like to wear anything "too pretty" as her accessories--in her mind, simplicity is best. She is maturing every day in her thinking and relationships, but patience and meekness are not her forte (well...she does have me as her mother). Despite the disagreements we have with her, we know she is a GOOD girl and I rely on her a lot.

And a few more things for sure--she has a very determined mind and organized habits, great innovative ideas and ways of making her brothers do what she wants them to do; she is also fantastic with putting things together and playing with little children. But her passion is singing. All. The. Time. And we love it! (unless it's late and we are tired and she is singing "THIS IS MY FIGHT SONG! TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG! PROVE THEM ALL RIGHT SO--OO--ONG!"...yeah....she is a tough cookie.

Happy Twelfth Birthday, K! We love you!
