I had no idea what Haggis was before we moved to the UK, but then many people mentioned how, although the dish sounds disgusting, it is actually very tasty if cooked properly. So here is Wikipedia definition for you: Haggis is a savoury pudding containing sheep's pluck (heart, liver and lungs); minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally encased in the animal's stomach and simmered for approximately three hours.
Remember Robert Burns, Scottish national hero and his people’s poet? He wrote a poem called “Address to a Haggis” (in 1787). I am inserting a link to the poem here so you can read it sometime, it’s quite odd…
And here are a few pictures of our friends, Katya and Robert trying this new dish. It was delish!
Even Janeen tried it!
All gone!
So next time you are in Scotland, don’t forget to order Haggis.
