Our World Traveling Babushka

My mom loves to travel—that must be where I get my travelling genes from (not JEANS though…hers don’t fit me;).  She has visited us, so far, everywhere we have ever lived—Utah, several times in Minnesota, Florida, even two times in Japan.

This time, she was on an important mission. As many of you know, she got her visa to enter the UK earlier this year, and because she got a multi-entry visa, she decided to utilize it. In short, after many years that I could have done it, I finally applied for my mom’s Green Card. This way she could receive permanent residency in the US and more easily live near us some day. In order for her to get her Green Card she had to make a trip to the US and actually get a stamp in her passport that she has crossed the border. So she flew from Lviv, Ukraine to London, stayed a day with us and then flew out to Charlotte, NC to see her friends in South Carolina. On the way back, she flew back into London, stayed with us for two days and left last night to go back to Ukraine.

She got a taste of what our everyday life is like since we did not want to do any sightseeing this time. The kids showed her they way they walk to school each morning.

And she watched them swim during their swimming lessons (Alex forgot his non-swimming shorts at home somehow…since he changed into his swimming trunks before he left for swimming-haha).

My mom was in awe with our back yard and spent lots of time running around with the kids.

Of course, she tried out the trampoline and decided it’s better than a roller coaster:).

We also took her to Sheffield (two hour drive north of us) to see BYU Ballroom Dance Company perform. It was a fabulous night! Such professionalism and talent! She loved it.

Nevertheless, most of all, she and the kids just enjoyed hanging out with each other. Babushka spent hours listening to Alex explaining to her “the most deadliest creatures” and showing her natural disasters in his books, braiding and rebraiding Katya’s hair and playing with Mark. We all enjoyed having her stay with us even if just for a little bit.

We are excited to see her and my sister, Lyena back here in July!!!
