We arrived in Hawaii at 7:00 am. It was middle of the night in Japan, but kids felt very refreshed and excited since they slept on the airplane. I cannot even describe how different and how much easier it is to fly with kids ages 3 and up. They were fantastic! And night flights are a great way to go long distances…
Anyway, we got our rental minivan and rode to Bellows Air Force Station. Bellows is located on the south east part of the island, about 20-30 minutes away from Honolulu’s Waikiki Beach. It’s much more secluded, quiet and not touristy. We liked it that way. Bellows has a great beach with lots of cabins or camping spots to rent. We got a cabin that had two bedrooms and a couch in the living room. Cabins are pretty small and “military style” but you could not beat the price or proximity to the beach, so we were satisfied.
This is the view from our backdoor. I literally could jog to the beach in 30 seconds.
Since check-in was at 3 pm (and they were very strict about that), we decided to go dip in the ocean and try to stay as awake as possible all day.
Mark loved being covered with sand.
Just beautiful views. The waves were fantastic every day. There were very few people compared to Waikiki, so we felt like it was our own private beach.
After the beach, we drove about 15 minutes to the commissary and got some fresh fruits and vegetables and snacks. We had some pizza that night for dinner and then went to the beach till the sun set.
Basically, for the next four days, every minute we had that we were not somewhere else exploring Oahu, we spent at the beach. We rented a boogie board from the recreation office and the kids had a ton of fun with that.
So did I. The kids acted like they were professional boogie boarders teaching me how to do it. So funny.
Mark enjoyed sitting and watching everyone on the beach. He loved getting in the water, but did not like being cold after getting out. Because of famous Hawaiian breeze it was never too hot at the beach, and even sometimes chilly.
If I let them, kids would live on the beach, sleep on the beach and eat on the beach.
Waiting for another wave.
Here it comes!
Oh, just looking at this water makes me want to go back in time and jump into those waves. It was gorgeous there!
Okay, good bye for now. I’ll need to tell you what we did the other four days in another post.
Seen any sea turtles yet?
