Stitches

All those tiresome hours practicing suturing on pig's feet and cow's tongue in dental school definitely paid off in a big way today.  I was asked to help close two very large lacerations today: one on the patient's face and the other on the arm.  Apparently the patient was cut with scissors in both places.   Fortunately, I was able to close the facial cut with a beatifully executed internal horizontal mattress suture (to minimize scarring) and the one on the arm was closed with a simple continuous suture because I just needed to get it closed fast before more leakage occurred.  The good news is the patient will be fine.  Here's a picture of him.  His name is Fluffy.  He was Katya's birthday present today.  As you can see, he's no worse for wear and he'll be ready for cuddling with Katya first thing in the morning.
Oh, and we apprehended the alleged attacker shortly after the incident occurred.  He'll likely be doing a few extra chores around the house.  He pleaded "I was only trying to give him a haircut because he had too much hair."  With any luck, the judge will be in a good mood tomorrow.

  1. I read this post in my email before the picture was showing. I am glad the duck is alright. I'm sure you are now the best surgeon ever to walk the earth.
