We all knew that Indian culture is full of colorful rich pre-wedding traditions. We were all excited to experience many rituals and ceremonies that were planned for the days prior to the wedding. Our Ukrainian family also knew that by having this wedding in India, we’d have to forgo many Ukrainian wedding traditions, including bread and salt and paying a ransom for the bride.
Therefore, we all decided that a good way to celebrate our culture, would be at least to wear our Ukrainian outfits to the dinner on the eve of the wedding.
This is all us, girls, of the family (minus my sister).
Some of our Ukrainian kiddos were not so happy. Petrusik….
and Alex…(he was hoping to wear a different Ukrainian shirt…still learning to deal with disappointments).
Here is our attempt to take a picture of all our Ukrainian kids (five in all).
I am sure this hotel had never seen anything like this in its history! We were quite the sight in that hotel lobby. Oh look, now my sister is here too.
I am not sure that these two Japanese ladies had ever seen such a sight either! They were very eager to take pictures with us as well.
Here is the whole Ukrainian wedding delegation (family and friends).
Before we got too stuffed with our buffet dinner, we had to snap some pictures. Not every day you see a guy from India and and a guy from America dress as a Ukrainian-haha.
And with our happy mama, of course.
Our dinner was rolling wonderfully and we could try lots of different food at the buffet, but we had to hurry, as the bus was waiting for us at 9 pm to go on our next adventure (we gave up the idea of kids’ sleep schedule the day we got there…staying up till 1 am was the norm that week—a real vacation for them!).
Lyana.
